My very first own car.

Every man (and woman) who is at least a little interested in cars, thinks with special, mostly good, feelings about his very first car. My first car was an `83 Santana LX in sand metallic paint. The very colour of the car should have been a license to wear an old man´s hat and to block every fast lane on the autobahn - especially together with the light brown interior and the lambswool-seat covers. But blocking fast lanes was not necessary at all: "Elix´" performance was quite sufficient - and the car was quite economical, as noted on my weekend home tours when I served my time in the German army.

When I bought it, I was not aware of the "LX" actually being the smaller model of the Santana range - compared to my father´s Golf Mk. II and my mother´s `95 Polo it was a real luxury car. But soon I noticed "lack" of some smaller equipment and slowly started to upgrade the car into a "CLX".

I drove this car for 35.000km in two and a half years until I overlooked a Passat Mk.III (35i) when turning left at a crossroads...

Why a Santana?
